Taking a break from Varda, hopefully

December 26, 2008

I am going to write some horror stories or something set in the real world for a while. I think my imaginary world needs a break.

Today I’m at a resort in the mountains with my family. I think it would make a great setting for a horror story!

Seven Pounds

December 22, 2008

I saw a very disappointing movie this week. I’m not sure I am authorized to say it was horrible, because I walked out halfway through it. I found the movie rambling, and I didn’t understand what was going on. I didn’t care about the characters, and there was absolutely no tension.

Have any of you seen this movie? What do you think of it?

Exams

I will have exams so I will not be posting for the next week. See you later.

A Flattering Rejection… Did you know those exist?

December 11, 2008

I just got a flattering rejection from a very respected magazine. Sometimes even rejections can put you in a good mood. They said they liked it a lot and held on to it for longer than usual, but eventually had to admit that it just didn’t fit the theme of the antho.

And once again, calling one and all to look at my bibliography section, read “Jeana” and tell me what you think.

Snow Day!

My colllege classes got cancelled. Hopefully I’ll get a lot of writing done today…

Writing

December 9, 2008

Wrote a story about a group of heroes I haven’t introduced yet. I have to publish the first one before you can understand the next, you see. This time an evil elven lord from the Lonen Tribe is trying to exterminate the Plains Elves. This one, I estimate, will be about 10,000 words, which makes it virtually unmarketable in ezines. Which is my main problem with getting these published.

More work on my novel

December 6, 2008

I’ve just about finished plotting the first part of my novel. Now, I’m going to see whether it works out a little better (maybe it will be a little more structured and longer than three thousand words).

I had a great conversation with another writer yesterday night, and I told him the plot of my novel. He said it wasn’t any more cliched than what’s getting published today, which made me feel more confident about writing it (and I trust his opinion–he’s a much more experienced writer than I am.)

The good news in all this…

December 3, 2008

I plan on writing many more stories about Sir Jacq and his Ratling friend; hopefully this sale to Abandoned Towers will allow me to write them.  I’ve written about three now, and I’m not satisfied with any of them.  In one, he goes to the kingdom I based loosely on Ancient Greece (called Helanesus) and fights a satyr-worshipping cult.  In the other, he is protecting a princess from a prophecy that predicts her death.  In the third, which I’ve just started, he is visiting the haunted manor of a rich nobleman (which I’m starting to wonder if it’s worth writing at all).  Hopefully today I’ll get busy fixing them.

A Parable

December 2, 2008

This is how I feel about my current fiction “career.”

So, like many other pioneers, I’ve reached the foothills.  Relieved for only a second, I cannot help but see a treacherous, snowy mountain blocking the way to the Promised Land.  There is no direct path through it, and I am without a guide; knowing that many perish in the process of climbing, and some are stuck in the mountains forever.  I have to pave my own way, with only my wits and a determination to survive.
