May 29, 2009

3 days until the beginning episode of the serial. Remember to read it and get back to me!

Civilization

May 27, 2009

I am in New York right now, Brooklyn to be exact, working on a story in the Prospect Branch library. My brother is composing music while I waste my time on the Internet and write. Fun fun. In the meantime, read one of my stories, get back to me and leave a comment.

Fantasy Magazine

May 26, 2009

Fantasy Magazine is a tough sell. I am not sure they accept sword ‘n sorcery, since I haven’t really seen them publish secondary world fantasy. But I can’t fault them for their response time, sometimes less than 24 hours.

Which comes to my lament–a lack of professional venues who accept heroic fantasy. Suggestions, people?

Dead Until Dark Cover Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris

My Rating: 7.5 out of 10

I enjoyed this book a lot. I liked the characters, Sookie and Bill. The setting, northern Louisiana, seemed to be very unique in the vampire genre. It was also unique in that the protagonist wasn’t a teen, and that she wasn’t obsessed (a la twilight) with her vampire lover. The uniqueness and the likeability of the characters are the strongest points of the book.

I don’t have too many criticisms, besides that the writing could be a little awkward at times and could have been made crisper or stronger. I thought sometimes she could have gone more in depth into some of the themes in her novel.

Recommended: Yes.

Alas!

May 21, 2009

The story has been rejected by “Fantasy,” but I have far from given up. I think (and my parents agree) this is the best story I have ever written. I poured a lot of emotion into it. As always I shall keep you updated!

A New Story I’m Excited About

May 20, 2009

I hope to submit this to Fantasy Magazine, since it’s professional paying and the response time is so damn short. Although rejection is inevitable, I am excited about this one enough to where I think there may be a fleeting chance. I shall keep you updated with either rejection or (maybe) acceptance! :)

A tiny bit of the backstory

May 19, 2009

Many centuries ago, the kingdom of Itj Tep thrived like no other. They became dominant in the world both militarily and economically, with an unstoppable navy, and trading ships that reached every corner of the world – from the stormy, frigid North Seas to the warm, tropical waters of the south. But their kingdom grew decadent, selfish and arrogant in their great prosperity. Their deity and progenitor, the Jackal God Nuben, was greatly angered by the corruption of His people. He demanded that his people atone. He descended from His sanctuary in Mount Khymer and demanded King Kheben kneel and beg forgiveness. This infuriated the proud King Kheben. He lobbed a spear at the god in fury and pierced the Nuben’s heart. Though the wound did nothing to him, Nuben was greatly filled with wrath, and pronounced a great curse upon the proud people of Itj Tep.
